Mellie Bellies mobile catering brings southern soul food and barbecue to central Pa.
Hit it up for hickory smoked beef brisket, smoked baby back ribs, southern brined grilled chicken and blackened shrimp and cheddar grits accompanied by sides like cornbread, grilled corn cobs with honey, pasta salad and roasted red herbed potatoes.
Mellie’s also hosts pop-up dinners with dates announced on Facebook.
Owner/chef Bryan Sanders named the business after his late daughter, Melanie Brynn Sanders, who was born premature.
“The fight she showed day in and day out while battling in the NICU is the same fight I have in my heart to not only produce the BEST Southern Barbecue in Harrisburg, PA, but to let EVERYONE see and hear her name through,” according to the website.
Partners Shaun Harris, Jerry “JT” Thomas and Tim White have reason to celebrate.
They recently raised more than $26,000 through a GoFundMe campaign to help their urban craft brewery - and the first black-owned craft brewery in Pennsylvania - become a reality.
“One step into our taproom and you will be immersed in hip hop culture in an experience unlike any other craft brewery in Pennsylvania,” reads their website.
Last year, the partners received zoning approval from Harrisburg for a 3,000 square foot industrial building at 1721 Holly St. It will first operate as a wholesale brewery as they sell to bars and restaurants.
Eventually, they will search and develop a second spot for a taproom.
William and Diane Crawford branched out from caterers to full-time restauranteurs in 2012 when they opened Crawdaddy’s, a sit-down restaurant in Harrisburg.
Crawdaddy’s specializes in southern food with a New Orleans flair. The menu is punctuated with crab-stuffed catfish, gator etouffee, bayou chicken and shrimp gumbo and Creole style shrimp and grits.
It’s known for lunch and dinner as well as Sunday brunch.
While the restaurant is currently closed for indoor seating, you can nab limited seating on the patio with social distancing. Crawdaddy’s is also offering takeout.
Hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday.
Obi and Nicole Linton operate a restaurant and food trucks under the Soul Burrito name.
They focus on globally inspired burritos, homemade mac and cheese and wings.
The restaurant occupies a portion of the first floor of the Linton’s home, which has served as Soul Burrito’s base and commissary for the past couple of years.
Favorite burritos include The Greedy made with tender grilled steak and marinated chicken and the Jamaican Sensation with marinated chicken and a mild coconut curry sauce.
Soul Burrito also caters and the Lintons continue to book their trucks for events.
At Crawdaddy’s, you can enjoy a unique menu of Southern Comfort food with a New Orleans flair.
Our dining experience includes our regular dinner menu, lunch menu, Sunday Brunch menu and catering.
