The Harrisburg School District has announced that it is cancelling classes for high school students on Thursday in response to the death of student in last nights shooting homicide on Bellevue Road.

The school district said that “due to a tragic death of a high school student” the following campuses would not hold classes for high schoolers: John Harris, SciTech and Cougar Academy.

The district did not state in its announcement how the student died, but a district spokesperson told an ABC27 reporter that it was “safe to say” the victim of Wednesday afternoon’s homicide in Harrisburg was a student.

Below you can see some mourning friends of the victim. It’s always sad when any person is killed by a carelsss act of violence but hurts even more when the victim is still just a young child. We send our prayers and condolences to the family during this tough time.

All high school faculty and staff are to report to the John Harris auditorium for a professional development day at 8:15 a.m., the district said.

The district will have grief counselors available for students for the rest of the week as needed, the district said.
